Lunardi ascended in a balloon from Edinburgh, and came down again near a clergyman's house in Fife, Scotland, across the Firth of Forth. He told the clergyman: "We have been at the gate of Heaven since we went up. "The clergyman replied: "Then it is a pity you didn't go in; you may never be so near again."
